Kris on leaving ABS-CBN and delayed TV comeback: ‘I overestimated my worth’

Are you waiting with bated breath for long overdue Kris Aquino’s television comeback?

Well, here’s some bad news — it looks like it may not happen any time soon.

During detergent brand Ariel’s Wash Your Fears Summit in Makati City on Tue, Oct 11, the so-called Queen of All Media said she can’t give a “definite answer” on when she will return to TV.

“TV will come. I don’t have a definite answer about that,” she said. “Beyond that, I’m specifically told not to say anything so that I do not close any doors and I keep the other doors open. I wish I can give a more definitive answer.”

It was first reported that Kris will work on a game show, to be co-produced by APT Entertainment and to a air on GMA, on Sep 22 after formally announcing that she has left long-time home network ABS-CBN.

But days after Sep 22 had passed, reports claim that the show will no longer push through.

Kris also revealed that it’s been “three weeks of hell” for her because “several things that I thought that were going to start were delayed.”

Kris quipped, “I overestimated my worth.”

At the sidelines of the event, she told Coconuts Manila and other media outfits that these “three weeks of hell” were connected to the aborted TV show that was supposed to begin taping on Sep 22. But Kris refused to give any further details.

Nonetheless, Kris said she won’t let this drag her down.

“Sayang naman yung brains na binigay sa akin na just because I’m not on TV e titigil na ako sa pagiging productive,” she said.

(It’s unfortunate to waste the brains given to me if I will stop being productive just because I’m not on TV.)

“My sisters told me, kailangan maghanap ng balance. Sabi nila, ‘We understand, we understand na namimiss mo yung trabaho.’ And this is the only trabaho that I know. But they said, ‘Gawin mo muna yung trabaho na away from this, make a success of that. And if ready na, it will happen,” Kris added.

Kris plans to focus on digital so she won’t be completely absent from public consciousness. It was earlier reported that she plans to online-only shows with APT Entertainment, starting with a cooking show ala Buzzfeed’s Tasty.

Of course, she’s not closing her doors on signing a network contract with either ABS-CBN or GMA.

In fact, being away from ABS-CBN for a few months made her realize that there’s a bigger world out there — television-wise. Kris said she’s even a fan of GMA’s Alyas Robin Hood starring Dingdong Dantes and ABS-CBN’s James Reid and Nadine Lustre soap opera Till I Met You. She watched the Olympics on TV5.

“Siguro na-enjoy ko lang na hindi na ang kapatid ko ang binatikos ng news,” she said, referring to her brother, former Philippine President Benigno Aquino III. “Now, I love the news!”

(Maybe I just enjoyed watching TV because my brother is no longer the one being criticized in the news. Now, I love the news!)
