Okada Manila, an opulent 44-hectare property in the Entertainment City in Parañaque, is set to open in Dec. It is the third integrated casino resort that will open in the area, following Solaire and Melco Crown’s City of Dreams.
It took more than 18,000 construction workers to finish the first phase of the property.
The massive integrated resort has a casino floor, two hotel wings, a nightclub and beach club, a retail area, restaurants, and an iconic fountain, which is one of the largest in the world.
“We also anticipate our property to be iconic, and I think there is a yearning for an iconic property in Manila,” said Okada Manila President Steve Wolstenholme in a Manila Bulletin feature.
“We expect to see Manila as a top tourist destination and I think our property will help do that, together with many of the other things that are happening in the region as well,” Wolstenholme added.
Okada Manila is located a few minutes away from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) via a newly built direct link.
Okada Manila chairman Kazuo Okada invested a whopping US$2.4 billion in the property as his “gift to the Filipinos.” The construction was led by Japanese firm Miurashin Architect + Associates.
The highlight of the property is a dancing fountain which can supposedly rival the iconic displays in Dubai and Las Vegas. It measures 37,464 square-meters, equivalent to the size of 50 Olympic-size swimming pools.
Other highlights include two Y-shaped hotel towers with 993 rooms, a huge casino floor with 500 table games and 3,000 electronic gaming machines, and 90,000 square-feet night club and beach club entertainment complex.
Earlier this year, The Philippine Star reported that the entertainment complex plans to employ at least 8,000 Filipinos to cover “positions in casino gaming, casino marketing, club operations, security and surveillance, facilities management, hotel operations, food and beverage and cage operations.”
