Ooops! DepEd duped by fake Twitter account’s post about class suspensions

It happens to the best of us, doesn’t it?

The Department of Education (DepEd) became a victim of a fake site after it posted wrong information about class suspensions in Metro Manila for Thurs, Oct 20, 2016.

DepEd admitted that they got the information from a Twitter account pretending to be a legit government agency.

“In an effort to catch all announcement from different sources (government agencies, LGUs, schools, etc), a tweet from a fake account [mimicking] a trusted agency was quoted,” explained DepEd in a GMA News Online report.

The erroneous tweet was immediately taken down, but not before it was shared and cited in media outlets.

The DepEd applead to the public to refrain from reposting “unverified or malicious #walangpasok announcements.”
