Freed Pinoy seafarers’ food cravings: Pakbet, Dinuguan

Two Filipino food favorites are on top of a list of culinary requests that freed Filipino seafarers would ask of their wives.

Elmer Balbero, Arnel Balbero, Antonio Libres Jr., Edwas Akes Tininggal Jr., and Ferdinand Jacinto Dalit were held by Somali pirates while their vessel was crossing the Indian Ocean for Seychelles four years ago.

“Number one ko pakbet,” said Balbero, while for Dalit, it is pakbet and dinuguan.

The two happily divulged their food cravings following their tearful reunion with their families upon arrival in Manila on Fri.

Now that they are back, the group wants to first rest and make up for lost time with their families.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay personally welcomed the freed Pinoy seafarers abducted March 2012. Yasay also announced that each of the five seafarers will receive P100,000 financial assistance from the government. ABS-CBN News
