A lot of people online seems to be under the impression that 2016 has been horrible year.
But guess who’s been having a fantastic year so far? ABS-CBN actress Jessy Mendiola, who feels like she’s starting over again after a string of showbiz controversies that seemed to have stalled her career last year. Those controversies include her controversial breakup with actor JM De Guzman and her London flight incident with Enrique Gil.
Now, she’s stronger and better than ever.
“Pakiramdam ko na nagsisimula ako. Siguro ganun talaga pag hindi mo masyadong napapansin yung panahon. Kapag you take one step at a time, hindi mo napapansin na lumagpas na yung 2016 na ang dami mong nagawa,” Jessy said during the press conference of Mano Po 7: Tsinoy on Tue, Nov 22.

(I feel like I’m starting again. Maybe that’s what happens when you don’t notice the passage of time. When you take one step at a time, you won’t notice that 2016 is almost over and you have done a lot of things.)
She added: “Masaya ako na maraming nangyari ngayong 2016. All the more na I’m looking forward to 2017.”
(I’m happy a lot of things happened this 2016. All the more that I’m looking forward to 2017.)
Among her accomplishments this year: being hailed FHM Philippines’ Sexiest Woman of 2016 and finishing two movies, among them Mano Po 7 which will open in theaters on Dec 14.

Of course, there’s also her blossoming (but not yet confirmed) relationship with Luis Manzano, who she said always surprises her and makes her laugh.
“Sabi ko nga, pag may mga nawawala, may darating talaga na para sa iyo. I’m taking one step at a time day by day para hindi din ako ma-overwhelm,” Jessy said.
(Like I said, when one goes, another will take its place. I’m taking one step at a time day by day so I won’t get overwhelmed.)
The accolades and achievements come with naysayers and unwarranted criticism. Her Sexiest Woman win, for instance, brought about bashers who said she’s not worthy of the title.
Then there are fans who dragged her in Luis’ breakup with Angel Locsin earlier this year.
“Sometimes it gets to me but I guess ganun lang naman talaga ang tao. May time na masasaktan ka, may time din na you will emerge stronger,” she said.

(Sometimes it gets to me but I guess that’s how people are. There are times when you will get hurt, there are times when you will emerge stronger.)
Jessy added: “Happy na lang tayong lahat. Okay lang, tanggap ko na, na yung iba ayaw sa akin. Pero ganun talaga ang buhay, may mga ayaw sa iyo pero may gusto din sa iyo.”
(Let’s just all be happy. It’s okay, I’ve accepted it, that there are those who d not like me. But that’s life, there are those who hate you, but there are also those who like you.)
