Airport staff reminded not to ask for Christmas gifts from passengers

No gift is worth their jobs, right?

Airport staff who are caught asking for holiday presents from travellers will face disciplinary action, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Eddie Villanueva Monreal said on Fri, Nov 25.

“If someone asks for a present, he won’t even reach Christmas as an employee,” he added.

However, Montreal said that it’s okay to greet passengers “Merry Christmas”  as long as there’s no hidden agenda, Inquirer reports.

“It really depends on how they say ‘Merry Christmas,’ especially if they say it with palm facing up. We won’t allow those things to happen,” Montreal said.

He added that it is hard to monitor all the employees, so they are relying on passenger feedback to report airport. workers who are soliciting gifts

Meanwhile, airport authorities are stepping up their game in time for the peak season.

According to ABS-CBN News, MIAA will deploy 97 more security personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. There will also be a strict two-minute waiting time for people fetching travellers to avoid heavy traffic in the aiport.

A “slot management system” will also be implemented to ensure that airlines depart as scheduled.
