Filed: Pacquiao wants a ‘National Bible Day’ once a year

Politician-athlete Manny Pacquiao on Wed filed Senate Bill No. 1270, which declares the last Mon of Jan as “National Bible Day.”

Recognizing that the country is predominantly a Christian nation, Pacquiao said that the “Act recognizes the value of the Holy Bible as the core of Christian faith.”

Pacquiao noted that 93% of the Philippine population are comprised of Christians. The country has the largest Christian population in the Asia-Pacific and the fifth largest Christian population in the world.

“The core of Christian belief is grounded on the Holy Bible. Sermons and homilies of Christian churches dwell in the teachings of the Bible. It is the primary source of spiritual manna,” Pacquiao said in a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer

Pacquaio who is a  Born Again Christian openly shares how religion changed his life. 

The boxing champ famously quoted Bible verses in defending himself from his controversial comments about same-sex marriages.

Former Philippine Presidents Ferdinand Marcos, Corazon Aquino, and Fidel Ramos had proclamations which recognized the significance of the Bible in the lives of Filipinos. 

Ramos declared the last week of January as the National Bible Week in 1997. 

“This bill seeks to boldly emphasize the holiness of The Living Truth by allotting a holiday for its celebration on every last Monday of January, which shall be known as ‘National Bible Day,’” Pacquiao said.
