Proud to be Pinay: Rachelle Ann Go, Christine Allado make it to Hamilton’s West End production

Theater fans, rejoice!

Rachelle Ann Go will once again hit the West End stage soon as Eliza Schuyler, the wife of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, in the Tony Award-winning hit musical Hamilton by Lin Manuel Miranda.

This marks another groundbreaking project for Go, after starring as Fantine in Les Miserables and Gigi Von Trapp in the 2014 run of Miss Saigon

Another Filipina joins the cast of Hamilton London. Christine Allado from Miranda’s 1999 musical In The Heights will also join the West End cast as Peggy Schuyler, Eliza’s younger sister, and Maria Reynolds, the one woman who — if you’ve listened to the soundtrack countless times like us — perhaps brought about the downfall of Hamilton.

The news was confirmed by Miranda himself when he posted a Broadway.com article announcing the new case of Hamilton London.

Go confirmed the news on Twitter, posting a photo with Miranda.

Allado also posted on her Facebook account, saying “how happy and grateful” she is for the opportunity.

Allado writes, “…and Peggy! Can’t even express how happy and grateful I am to be joining the original London cast of Hamilton: An American Musical as Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds. [T]hankful and excited and so thrilled for this project which I have been a massive fan of and now get to be a part of! Thank you universe xx and yay Rachelle Ann V. Go represent!!! #immigrantswegetthejobdone”

Multi-awarded Filipina theater legend Lea Salonga tweeted her support for the new cast.

Miranda tagged all three Filipinas as well, thanking them IN TAGALOG.

Miranda writes, “Salamat po kaibigan.” Thank you, friend.

We are more than thrilled for Rachelle Ann Go and Christine Allado! Perhaps this means we’re two steps closer to Hamilton coming to the Philippines. No matter what, one thing’s for sure, they will not throw away their shot!
