Commissions on Elections (Comelec) chief Sixto Brillantes on Wednesday clarified that Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez can still run for the fourth congressional seat of Leyte in the upcoming May elections.
According to Brillantes, the Supreme Court ruling which ordered her to vacate her post as a member of the House of Representatives, has yet to become final and executory.
He stressed that the celebrity and commercial model is not disqualified from the Congressional race.
“She is not disqualified, the disqualification was the substitution. The one disqualified there was her husband, and she merely subbed for him,” said Brillantes in an Interaksyon.com report.
