Addie Wijangco grew up in a family that loves to eat — and cook. “There was always something baking in my mom’s oven and in my grandmothers’ kitchens,” she says. This love for cooking, however, didn’t instantly rub off on her. As a matter of fact, among the three siblings, Addie says she’s probably the worst at it. 

A few years ago, Addie’s mom had got tired of baking “so I asked for her recipes and started baking just so my kids and I could enjoy what I enjoyed eating while growing up.” Not content with that, she went home to Pampanga and asked her grandmother to teach her how to make ensaymadas — based on a recipe handed down through four generations. From that trip, she brought home two dozen pieces which she gave away to her friends. They liked it so much that they started to order. Word of mouth did its thing.

Addie’s heirloom ensaymadas are huge in size, slightly sweeter and more buttery than the ones you find in commercial bakeries. They’re so soft and pillowy that they just melt in your mouth. They are available in two sizes: six inches (PHP1,000 for six pieces weighing 200 grams each) and 4 inches (PHP1,100 for 12 pieces weighing 100 grams each).

The 6-inch ensaymadas are great for sharing with family and friends. The 4-inch is perfect for solo merienda.

Addie’s ensaymadas are so soft and pillowy. They’re slightly sweeter and more buttery than the commercial kind.
