Dining guide for Greenhills shoppers

This isn’t a shoppers guide to Greenhills — well it kinda is. Except we won’t be telling you where to get the best bargains on Class A Chanel bags or antique furniture. We’re going to tell you where to eat while you’re in the middle of shopping for them.

FOR A QUICKIE: FOOD CHANNEL
A lot of people will bet Food Channel serves the best shawarma in town. Look for the most crowded stall by the side of Theatermall, near V-Mall. Get the all-beef shawarma with cheese (PHP110), drown it in garlic sauce and you should be good in no time. No chairs, just standing tables.

FOR A THROWBACK: TROPICAL HUT
Never mind that it’s not yet Thursday, you can stil hashtag #throwback. Capture the old Greenhills feel by heading down to the basement of Shoppesville, near Theatermall, and grabbing an enamel chair at Tropical Hut (tel. no. +63 2 7211415). Of the classic fastfood trifecta in Greenhills, Tropical Hut is the only one yet to get a facelift (Jollibee has moved to the Annapolis Carpark, and McDonalds now has a café instead of the playground). Order the classic burger (PHP100) and fries (PHP30), just like before.

FOR AN AUTHENTIC GREENHILLS MEAL: LE CHING TEA HOUSE
This old Greenhills favorite (tel no. +63 2 7263677) is at the basement of Shoppesville, underneath Fabric Warehouse. It serves quick and casual Chinese food, with dimsum and noodle soup as best sellers. The hakao (PHP95) and the wanton noodle soup (PHP145) are no-fail. Locals love Le Ching so much that the eatery is almost always full, so if you can’t get in try Le Ching Too, also on the basement of Shoppesville.

FOR VEGETARIANS: C’VERDE
Located at Promenade Mall’s food court, this food outlet serves only vegetarian dishes. Most of their meals are good, but don’t miss out on their burgers, which even real meat eaters will enjoy. The caramelized onions and mushroom burger (PHP169) remains our favorite.

FOR MERIENDA: KAMICOS
They’ve been saying “the best tacos in town” since 1982 and so far, no one has yet to contest. Kamicos (tel. no. +63 2 7225362) serves Mexican dishes and though they’re hardly authentic, they are pretty popular — enough for them to have two locations (Theater Mall food court and at 2/F Shoppesville) here. Any of their tacos (PHP65) is a winner, but we also really enjoy the tomato and cheese quesadilla (PHP145).

FOR YOUR PINOY FIX: TITA PARING SUMAN LATIK
Located on the second floor of Shoppesville Arcade (hidden on the right side before you enter Shoppesville Plus) is Filipino fave Tita Paring (tel. no. +63 2 722 8968). The enclosed dining space ensures a leisurely merienda of latik (PHP45), which is their speciality. Great with coffee, we must say!

FOR LATE-NIGHT SNACKS: MISTER DONUT
If you’re gonna do your Greenhills shopping very early in the morning or, very late at night, Mister Donut Café (+63 2 570 9773) is open from 4am to 11pm. Try their Pon de Ring (PHP29) or their Do-sant (PHP65) with a cup of coffee (PHP35) and you should be up in no time.

FOR HALAL FOOD: GRV HALAL RESTAURANT
Next to Mindanao, Greenhills has a vibrant Muslim community. At the Annapolis carpark, near the Muslim Prayer Area, is GRV Halal Restaurant that serves — you guessed it — halal food. Fish dishes are at PHP50 each, while vegetable dishes are at PHP30.

FOR SOMETHING TO MUNCH ON WHILE SHOPPING: BAKERS FAIR
In the inner side of V-Mall, facing the tiangge, is Bakers Fair (tel. no. +63 2 5712304), known for its baked delights, especially the diced hopia. Bakers Fair sells them at PHP20 for 4 pieces, which is perfect as you make your way in the labyrinth.

FOR TAKE HOME GOODIES: CHOC FULL OF NUTS
Another one of those quiet Greenhills institutions, Choc Full of Nuts (+63 2 7243784) has been at it since 1974. It’s famous for its chocolate cupcake (PHP50) and candied sampaloc (PHP30) that people like to take home after a long day of shopping. Word of advice though: Get a pack of sampaloc early. They run out fast.
