[UPDATED] Alternative fundraisers for #YolandaPH

Canned goods ain’t your thing? Too busy to volunteer? Done with with spamming everyone with feel-good memes?  This is one cool way for you to donate: we’re adding more alternatives as they come in.

NOV 27. Music that moves fundraising concert. Music that Movies is a fundraising concert for Yolanda relief efforts. It is possibly the biggest gathering of local musicians for Yolanda victims, including Bayang Barrios, Sammy Asuncion, Ukelele Philippines, Human Folk, Noli Aurillo and Jay Ortega, to name a few. This will be on Wednesday, Nov 27 at the NBC Tent, Bonifacio Global City. All proceeds will go to the Philippine Red Cross.

NOV 29, DEC 1 & 7. Swan Song Series 3: The Nutcracker. Prima ballerina’s performance of this holiday staple is her final swan song (she’s been saying goodbye for three years now) and will feature her daughter Missy Elizalde. This was meant to be a profit show but after “much soul-searching” Lisa Macuja decided she will donate 100% of ticket sales to #YolandaPH relief efforts. 7pm (Nov 29), 3pm (Dec 1 & 7). Aliw Theatre, CCP Complex, Pasay City; www.ticketworld.com.ph,+63 2 891 9999. PHP515, PHP824, PHP1,030, PHP1,545, PHP2,060.

ONGOING TILL NOV 20. Authors for the Philippines. This UK initiative is an online auction to raise money for the Red Cross’s Typhoon Haiyan Appeal. Volunteer authors are selling signed books, editing advice and, our favorite, the name of a character in their next book. Bid in UK pounds. Details here.

ONGOING. Signed pictures of Edwin Tuyay. Photojournalist Edwin Tuyay is selling 8×12 inch signed black and white pictures at PHP3,5000 each. The subjects are varied: vendors in Baclaran, an idyllic photo of Mariveles, Bataan, and Kans Grass in Laguna, amogn others. All proceeds go to ABS-CBN Foundation’s #YolandaPH relief efforts. Contact coordinator Rodel Bautista at +63 927 3830447. To view the photos, click here.

ONGOING. Fishing Boat Project for Dolores, Eastern Samar.  The Rotary Club of Makati Dasmariñas has initiated a rebuilding plan for the small coastal town of Dolores where people subsist on fishing. Instead of relief goods, it is providing the community small fishing boats. “A small boat costs PHP5,000 plus an additional PHP500 for the katig (outrigger), lambat (fishing net), sagwan (oars), etc.”. As the donor, you have the option of naming the boat after yourself or a loved one. The town used to be infested with communist rebels who have given up their arms. But because of the Yolanda disaster, they might be tempted to once again take up arms. To participate, call Myleen at +63 2 4822295 or email secretariat@rcmakatidasma.com. By cash: deposit to Philippine National Bank (Account Name: Rotary Club of Makati-Dasmariñas; Account No: 383-3091000-30; Swift Code: PNBMPHMM). Scan deposit slip and email to secretariat@rcmakatidasma.com (cc: pnazareno@rcmakatidasma.com) and indicate the name of donor and their proposed name of the boat. By check: Rotary Club of Makati-Dasmariñas, Suite LG-12 Herrera Tower, Rufino corner Valero Sts, Salcedo Village, Makati.

ONGOING. TACart. Organized by intrepid social worker and Coconuts Manila contributing photographer Geloy Concepcion, who previously raised funds for Bohol. On Nov 10, he posted a notice on Facebook, asking painters, photographers, sculptors and other visual artists to donate their work. Joining Geloy is Imprenta Manila, which is donating its prints for the relief missions. “We are selling these artworks, a way of sharing our talents to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda. All of the proceeds will go to the relief efforts being organized. One half will be given to the Philippine Red Cross. The other half will be spent for purchase of relief goods to be packed here in Manila.” HOW IT WORKS: Visit Art Para sa Lahat on Facebook, select the artwork you like to purchase and leave a comment. Geloy will give you instructions on where to deposit the money and how to pick up the item. If you’re good, he might even personally deliver it to your house. Should you choose an Imprenta Manila print, you can pick them up at the shop in Cubao and pay there directly. Visit Imprenta Manila’s Facebook page

ONGOING TILL NOV 30. Portraits by Robert Alejandro. Renowned artist Robert Alejandro has committed to creating 12 portraits, and will donate 100% of revenues to the victims of Yolanda. HOW IT WORKS: It works on the principle of bidding. The 12 highest bids win. Please send your bids through the Robert Alejandro Facebook Page or send him an email at robert [dot] a [dot] alejandro [at] gmail [dot] com. Bidding ends on Nov 30, 2013. Winners will then have to send the amount to a BPI savings account, based in Manila. And then send an unsmiling image of themselves to the artist.
