Lav Diaz’s ‘Norte’ is the official Philippine entry to the Oscars

Right on! The 4-hour long Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan is the official Philippine entry to the Best Foreign Language Film Category of the Oscars 2015.

The movie made the film festival rounds around the world, garnering international acclaim. Apart from inclusions to a lot of year-end top movie lists of 2013, Norte won the Best Film at the Pancevo International Film Fest in Serbia. According to Yahoo Philippines, “in 2013, Norte won Best Picture at the International Cinephile Society Award and the Nuremberg International Human Rights Award.”

Norte, which stars Sid Lucero and Angeli Bayani, is a drama about crime and family. A loose adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, it is said to be Lav Diaz’s most accesible film to date.
