Uniformed men and women who find ways to earn extra money through illegal means have a reason to be scared.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueno ordered a sweeping lifestyle check of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to ensure that the members of the police force are living within their means.

Sueno tasked PNP chief Director General Ronald de la Rosa to proceed with the lifestyle check in the PNP, starting with the police generals, Philippine Star reports

“As public servants, we are expected to be exemplars of honesty, integrity and professionalism. So if the policemen or any other civil servant for that matter have acquired unexplained wealth while in active service, they have a lot of explaining to do,” he said.

This follows President Rodrigo Duterte’s revalation of generals who were supposedly involved in the illegal drug trade and the series of drug tests which took PNP by surprise.

Dea Rosa has earlier expressed his intention to conduct lifestyle checks for PNP cops.

It is part of the new administration’s efforts to revamp the PNP. It’s consistent with President Duterte’s promise to curb drugs, and corruption.
