Much ado about Atom Araullo’s career move — he is not going anywhere

The interwebz is abuzz about Atom Araullo’s career move over at ABS-CBN News where he will remain as host for a television show and a radio program, while giving up his full-time role as a news reporter.

The goodlooking reporter — who became a household name for his brave coverage of Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, which in turn earned him several gushing articles in major publications and put him on the cover of Esquire — also dismissed reports that he resigned from his reportorial duties because of his political convictions.

“My political views were not a factor in making this decision,” Araullo said in a statement posted on his Facebook.

Araullo has been vocal about his stand on issues such as the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

The Philippine Star on Mon, Aug 29, also hinted that the 33-year-old reporter has received “juicy ‘feelers’ from a local network and an international network.”

It is not true that he has been neglected by ABS-CBN management.

“But it’s not true what Funfare’s DPA on Bohol Avenue said that Atom was neglected or that management did not have a ‘developmental plan’ for the reporter.

“On the contrary, the management had discussed with him their plans on building him as a news anchor, but the reporter expressed his interest to concentrate on doing documentaries.

“The company’s management saw potential in him and that is why he was given additional programs like a morning show and current-affairs programs on TV and radio.

“He was also given more exposure in the company’s various events and public service activities so he could be immersed with the people. Management is supportive of his plans and he remains a Kapamilya,” the report said.
