Globe signs deal with DOTC to provide free Wi-Fi at MRT

Should we be thankful? But, truth be told, we don’t know whether to rejoice or simply laugh over this.

On Thu, Jun 9, Globe Telecom announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to provide free Wi-Fi connection in stations of Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) along EDSA.

The Wi-Fi connection isn’t unlimited though. As ABS-CBN News pointed out: “The free Wi-Fi service is expected to benefit about 350,000 passengers for 30 minutes daily.”

Joel Agustin, Globe senior vice president for program governance, explained that “the project aims to help address issues on mobile signals along EDSA, especially during rush hours.”

Well, now at least a lot more people can take selfies when they’re pissed at the MRT.
