After snub, Vic Sotto says: ‘I hope MMFF respected the taste of Pinoy moviegoers’

It’s clear a lot of former mainstays of the Metro Manila Film Festival were ruffled over this year’s line-up.

Vic Sotto, whose movie Enteng Kabisote and the Abangers failed to make it in the 2016 MMFF, said he respects of the decision of the film fest’s selection committee.

However, the TV host-comedian also said he hopes the MMFF respected the preference of other Pinoy moviegoers.

“Nirerespeto ko ang panlasa ng naging screening committee. Ang masakit lang para sa akin, hindi nila nirespeto yung panlasang iyon ng manonood ng pelikulang Pilipino,” Vic said during the press conference of Enteng Kabisote and the Abangers on Thu, Nov 24.

(I respect the preference of the screening committee. But what’s painful for me is that they did not respect the preference of Filipino moviegoers.)

He added: “Andiyan na ‘yan. Sabi nga nila, ang kanilang desisyon ay final and unanimous. I respect that. Pero sana lang, nirespeto ng komite yung panlasa ng Pinoy.”

(It’s already done. As they said, the decision is final and unanimous. I respect that. But I hope the committee respected the taste of the Filipino.)

Vic explained that none of the entries in the 2016 MMFF are for children. And the MMFF has been traditionally aimed towards families and kids.

“At alam natin lahat, pagdating ng Pasko, inaabangan ito ng buong pamilya,” he added.

(And we all know, families look forward to this every Christmas.)

Vic’s movies have been a mainstay of the annual Christmas film fest since the early 2000s. His Enteng Kabisote movie franchise began in the MMFF as a movie spin-off of the popular fantasy-comedy TV series Okay Ka Fairy Ko! in 1991. Enteng Kabisote and the Abangers is the film series’ 10th installment.

As previously announced, Enteng Kabisote and the Abangers will open in theaters on Wed, Nov 30 with Vice Ganda and Coco Martin’s The Super Parental Guidance, which also failed to make it as an MMFF.

Vic and Vice have been battling as the MMFF top grossers since 2012, when the ABS-CBN started joining the film fest.

“Mami-miss ko sina Coco at Vice kaya sabay-sabay pa rin kami sa sinehan,” Vic quipped.

(Coco and Vice will miss me, so I decided to join them in the theaters.)
